Goal:
To develop effective, successful cooperative groups in the classroom
Strategies/Approaches to achieve goal:
- class list of appropriate group behaviours to be displayed and referred to throughout (e.g. stay on task, contribute ideas, help others learn, encourage everyone to participate..)
Research and implement 5 elements:
1.Positive Interdependence
2.Social Skills
3.Individual Accountability
4.Group Evaluation
5.Face-to-Face Interaction
- Start with short, structured lessons aimed at fostering turn-taking, involving all students in the discussion, and clarifying the roles, rights, and responsibilities of group members - research strategies and begin to implement.
- introduce reciprocal reading strategy within guided reading.
Success Criteria:
What Will I See When It’s Working?
Children staying on task throughout a group activity.
Children understanding that they are accountable for the group as well as themselves when working in a cooperative group setting.
Children showing respect to each other, listening to one another, and feeling safe enough to share their thoughts and feelings.
