Professional Learning Target

After observing the class for a few weeks during group work tasks it became quite apparent that although they were 'in a group' not all children were actively participating or learning anything for it. Also as soon as tasks are completed quite a few of the children are in the habit of disturbing other children in different groups and distracting them from their learning.

I have been wanting to incorporate reciprocal reading into my teacher toolbox for a while and this seems to go hand in hand with ensuring that effective group work is taking place within the classroom. I want the children to become aware that they are responsible for the group task - but they are also accountable individually too. Cooperative groups is what this is being called rather than collaborative group work. At the end of the day I would like both types of group work to be effective, but am aiming to concentrate on cooperative groups first.
